Marquee Wedding Hire- your questions answered

Choosing the ceremony and reception venue for your wedding can be one of the most difficult decisions to make. Not only do you want it to be the wedding you have always wanted, but it also sets the scene to give a lifetime of memories of your big day – for you, and your family and friends.

The reason so many couples are choosing a marquee for their wedding is the complete control you have over the venue: you are not tied to a resident caterer you can choose all the colour schemes and themes, without being restricted to the existing themes at a function centre guest numbers can be as small or as large as you choose.

  • You choose the place: YOUR wedding, how, where and when you want it.
  • There is no time limit at the end of the wedding – you can party on till dawn if you want to!
  • There is no need to worry about cleaning upon the night and best of all…it’s available for the next day

You will be amazed how cost effective having a marquee can be when all these things are taken into account. The marquee is usually erected on Wednesday or Thursday before the wedding and dismantled on Monday or Tuesday, so there is plenty of time for decorating prior to the wedding, and loads of time for an “after wedding” luncheon or barbeque the next day.

To help you make your decision – here are the answers to some frequently asked questions:

Will it be a clean, white marquee?

YES. At Hyde Park Hire we are very fussy about the cleaning and overall condition of our marquees. We hand clean them after every hire; this allows us to check them for damage and repair it, if any has occurred, immediately. We specialise in weddings and we know that you want a wedding marquee as clean, white and elegant as your wedding dress!

How big a marquee will I need?

You tell us how many guests and the format you are planning for the day – we will recommend a marquee to suit your vision.

Where will the caterer work from?

We usually recommend a small, attached marquee for the caterer but it is possible to use an existing kitchen or even a garage.

What about toilets? Where will people wait?

Portable, flushing, nice toilet units are available and we usually put them a small marquee that is attached to the main marquee; but screened from view; so your guests will not have to wait outside. The units come complete with toilet paper, hand towels, pump soap and interior lights.

Who will do the catering?

Feel free to ask us for a referral. We work with very capable and experienced caterers that know exactly what is required for a wedding in a marquee. We are happy to provide referrals.

Who will put the marquee up and take it down?

We can do the entire job for you, or if you prefer we can provide a supervisor to guide a team of your family and friends to do the installation and removal.

What about the view? Can the marquee have windows in?

Absolutely! When a site inspection is completed, you can choose how many clear walls you would like and where they are to be placed to take best advantage of the view.

What about the Weather?

Our marquee installers are used to the wind and weather in Canterbury. We watch the weather forecasts closely and take precautions against any inclement weather. the corners of the marquee can be triple pegged with ‘peg-bars’. The side of the entrance marquee that is opened up can be changed on the day so your guests receive maximum protection from the weather. We use guttering between each marquee, to keep leakage to a minimum. And of course your marquee can either be heated or cooled, depending on the season.

How long can we have the marquee for?

We like to erect the marquee for a weekend wedding on Wednesday or Thursday, which gives you time to decorate and set up.

Can we have the marquee for a barbeque the next day?

Yes, the celebrations need not stop because the sun has gone down on the wedding day!

Won’t it be expensive?

In our experience, once the overall costs of involved in a marquee wedding are balanced with one held in a function centre you will tend to find that the higher initial cost of the marquee is offset by the considerable savings made in other areas – particularly, food and alcohol.

Is it a big job to decorate it?

You can decorate it yourself, or if you prefer we can help by putting you in touch with one of the very talented experts that we work with.

Do I need a permit to erect a marquee on private property?

Yes, if the marquee is over 100m2. A permit from the local council is required. We can handle this for you and all the technical specifications of our marquees are kept on file at the councils.

Who will clean up?

The caterer will leave everything neat and tidy after the reception. All the hired equipment is removed when the marquee is dismantled.

We don’t have enough room – where can we have a marquee wedding?

There are some beautiful venues, from private gardens to parks that are available for functions and weddings, just ask.

We deliver what we promise – quality, reliability, efficiency and value for your investment, together with a personal service that’s second to none.
